Haselwood Auto Group Gives Back

New YMCA named ‘Haselwood Family YMCA’
SILVERDALE — Kitsap County resident Joanne Haselwood has pledged $2.5 million toward the new YMCA on the Central Kitsap Community Campus, naming it the “Haselwood Family YMCA” in honor of her late husband, Chuck Haselwood.
Chuck Haselwood was the founder of Haselwood Auto Group and was a long-time Kitsap County businessman and philanthropist. He believed in giving back to the community that gave so much to him, Joanne Haselwood says. He was a supporter of organizations that provided opportunities and safe places for youth, and his three daughters swam at the YMCA during their childhood.
“This is a good way to carry on Chuck’s name,” says Joanne Haselwood. “He would be proud to have his name on this facility knowing that his legacy will make a difference in his community for many generations.”
The Haselwood Family YMCA will serve as a community hub for people from all walks of life in the greater Silverdale area. Set to open its doors in Winter 2011, the Haselwood Family YMCA will serve an estimated 15,000 members and provide jobs for 200 local residents. The 50,000 to 70,000-square-foot facility will be centrally located at the intersection of Poplars Avenue and Silverdale Way on the 12 acre Central Kitsap Community Campus under a lease agreement between the YMCA and Kitsap County.
The YMCA and Kitsap County have worked closely together and with a citizen’s advisory group to develop the best community center possible. The YMCA will feature swimming pools, wellness centers, exercise and multipurpose rooms, a gym, a community meeting center, a youth drop-in zone, a nursery, and much more.
“The employees of Haselwood Auto Group are committed to supporting a healthy community and look forward to working closely with the YMCA, which will provide a safe and fun place for kids,” says Rick Wiler, Managing Partner of Haselwood Auto Group.
